MoCo Arts Awards 6th Annual NHDI Student Scholarship

L to R: Sally Malay-Executive Director of NHDI, Kristen Leach-Artistic Director of NHDI and MoCo Teaching Artist, Jenna Condap-NHDI Scholarship Winner, Reagan Messer-Executive Director & Artistic Director of Dance at MoCo Arts

Each year, MoCo Arts awards a merit-based scholarship to one student of the New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) which covers the cost of tuition to 2 dance classes at MoCo during the fall and spring semesters of a given year (an $1140 value.) The scholarship is just one of the ways that MoCo Arts and NHDI collaborate to help bring the joy of dance to children throughout the Monadnock region. 2019 marks the 6th year that this scholarship has been in place, and there’s no doubt the tradition will continue for many years to come.

The scholarship recipient is chosen not only for their abilities, but more importantly for having demonstrated dedication, determination, and enthusiasm for dance. The chosen recipient must also demonstrate a strong work ethic and is expected to set a good example for others that come to learn at MoCo Arts. NHDI selects the students they believe best fit the criteria for the scholarship, including having had no prior dance instruction in a studio setting and invite them to apply if interested.

The application process consists of each student drafting a short essay which explains why they would like to continue their arts education at MoCo Arts. The applications are reviewed by MoCo Arts, and additionally, MoCo attends NHDI’s end-of-year performance to see how the applicants do on stage. Is there passion in their performance? Do the students exhibit joy in the movement? If there’s passion… MoCo wants to give them the opportunity to pursue that passion.

This year, MoCo Arts is pleased to announce the recipient of the MoCo Arts NHDI Student Scholarship has been awarded to Jenna Condap, a soon-to-be freshman at Monadnock Regional High School. Jenna will be participating in MoCo’s dance program during the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters.

Congratulations, Jenna!! We look forward to welcoming you to the MoCo Arts family.
