Fall Semester Auditions

The studios are all abuzz and the excitement in the air is palpable as everyone is getting ready to welcome students back to MoCo for the fall semester. Summer camps are winding down, and preparations for the coming season are in full swing. The Theatre Program is especially busy, with 6 fully produced performances on the schedule between November and January, and a very busy beginning to the semester with lots of auditions lined up.

What follows is a complete schedule of audition dates and times for each of MoCo’s theatre classes – Elementary, Middle School, and High School – as well as the Storytime Theatre class for our youngest performers. Students interested in auditioning for a show must be registered for the corresponding class, and all students enrolled in each class will be cast in the show. We hope you find this to be a useful resource, and as always, we invite you to contact us by phone at (603) 357-2100 or via email at info@moco.org with any questions you may have. Without further ado… the Fall Semester Auditions Schedule!

The Story: We’ve all heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood. But how often has it been told from the Wolf’s point of view? Yes, this kind, sensitive wolf gentleman is upset, for he has been maligned by society because of a story that has been repeated to generations of children. He is determined to tell the story as it really happened. The story of the TRUE nature of Red Riding Hood and his own good intentions. This hilarious story will show you that there are two sides to every story.

The Story: A Christmas Carol is a spectacular adaptation of Charles Dickens’ most well-known story. Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug! Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present, and Future. Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas” before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him.

First Class: Friday, September 6th
Auditions: Friday, September 13th, 3:30 – 5:30 pm

The Story: This exciting drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in Olde Salem is both a gripping historical play and a timely parable of our contemporary society. The story focuses upon a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife’s arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie – and it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others.

First Class: Wednesday, September 4th
Auditions: Wednesday, September 11th, 3:30 – 5:00 pm
Performances: Saturday, January 11th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, January 12th at 2:00 pm.

The Story: Based on the beloved books in The Nutshell Library by Maurice Sendak, Chicken Soup with Rice includes twelve rhymes, one for each month of the year, with chicken soup as the universal theme. Although the story begins in the middle of winter – presumably the best time of year to enjoy a bowl of chicken soup – a case is made for eating chicken soup in every season. Our play explores this story, as well as One Was Johnny, a counting story, Alligators All Around, an ABC story, and Pierre, a morality tale, for a 45-minute musical theatre presentation filled with songs and dances!

First Class: Thursday, September 5th
Auditions: Thursday, September 12th, 3:45 – 4:45 pm
Performances: Sunday, January 19th at 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm
