New Theatre Workshops at MoCo

You’ve probably heard all about the expanded theatre offerings at MoCo Arts. That there are literally three times as many options for students this year, and that the classes are more age-appropriate, with three age groups which include Elementary, Middle, and High School classes. The expanded programming now includes straight plays along with the already popular musical theatre. The options are seemingly endless! Still, there are some kids that just do not want to be on stage. They have no interest in performing in front of a crowd. And yet, they would really benefit from having an outlet for all of that creative energy. Enter MoCo’s new Theatre Workshops. The perfect way for your middle or high schooler (workshops are currently available kids in grades 6-12) to experience all that MoCo Arts has to offer, without worrying about ever stepping foot on stage.

Improv-1

Improv Jam Theatre Workshop
Every other Friday evening, the crew gathers at MoCo to explore the world of improvisation. Improv is a form of live theatre where the plot, characters, and dialogue of a game, scene or story is made up in the moment. The class uses theatre games and scene work that challenge students to use their creative energy while having fun and building friendships. Improv Workshops are held on Friday nights, except during performance weeks, and are led by our resident Master of Improv, Eric Snare. This class is perfect for any teen that could use a place where they’re flare for drama, quick wit or sly tongue can truly be appreciated. You can sign up for one workshop, or all of them. Drop ins are welcome.

Tech Theatre 2

Technical Theatre Workshop
Perfect for the tech savvy teen, The Technical Theatre Workshop is a unique and fun opportunity for students to go behind the scenes and learn about all of the elements used to put on a stage production. Students will be immersed in hands on activities utilizing stage lighting, sound equipment, set construction, and more. Working together with Amanda, the Tech Theatre Teacher and Technical Assistant here at MoCo, students will work to design and build some of the elements that will be seen on stage in our upcoming Theatre productions. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to work together, in all aspects of theatre, to put on a great show. No performing required.

As you can see, there are lots of options to explore at MoCo Arts. Whether your child is the theatrical extrovert who lives for the stage and thrives on being the center of attention, or the tech savvy introvert that prefers a quieter method of making their mark on the world, MoCo Arts has a program that’s just right for them. One thing you can be sure of – whichever you choose, the experience will leave them with fond memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
