THIS WEEKEND: The Boy Who Drew Cats performed by MoCo Arts Storytime Theatre

MoCo Arts Storytime Theatre students invite the public to their performance of The Boy Who Drew Cats!

Performed in-person at MoCo Arts’ black box, The Founder’s Theatre on Saturday, June 18 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. A livestream option is available for the 4 p.m. showing!

This spring’s Storytime Theatre production, The Boy Who Drew Cats, is based on an old Japanese folktale. Adapted for our youngest actors ages 4-8 years old, the story follows Toyo, a small boy who loves to draw cats. When Toyo is supposed to be helping his family on the farm, he lazes about and draws cats instead. His parents send him away to learn to read and write, but he dreamily draws cats on the ancient scrolls and texts. Given the gift of a magic paintbrush, he is sent off to make his own way in the world. When he finds himself in a village plagued by rats, his artistic abilities turn this daydreaming misfit into a hero.

Featuring colorful kites and playful puppets, the story features traditional and contemporary Japanese music. This fictional fantasy reminds us of the power of the arts and the importance of following one’s true calling.

Tickets to the in-person performance at $10 and can be purchased by visiting MoCo Arts at 40 Roxbury Street, Keene, NH 03431 or calling MoCo at (603) 357-2100.
