MoCo Students LIVE On the Radio

Giving our students one-of-a-kind experiences outside of our studios is a great bonus here at MoCo Arts. Over the past couple weeks many students have been given the opportunity to visit the studios at Monadnock Broadcasting Group to be the voices of our radio ads, or as on-air guests with Dan Mitchell.

Recording ads with MoCo students gives them a behind the scenes look at marketing and promoting classes, camps, and performances. Since MoCo’s primary focus is arts education for kids, it makes perfect sense to hear their voices in our ads! Since 2013 over 35 students between the ages of 5 and 18 have lent their voices and time to visit the radio station and record promotional ads. They receive a short script and record line by line with the Promotions Producer who helps coach them through this process. Sometimes lines are recorded multiple times to correct mispronunciations or to add more enthusiasm. Since the ads are digitally recorded the best clips are taken to create the final spot. After the voiceover is complete music is added, giving the ad its final sound for the radio.

This experience is valuable to our students to give them a bigger understanding of what goes into promoting MoCo’s programming and performances. It is also important for the community to hear from the kids themselves about why they keep coming back to MoCo year after year.

Going on air LIVE with Dan Mitchell on WKBK is a special opportunity for students to speak about their experience with MoCo Arts, and promote the performances that they are currently participating in. Most recently, 4 students from the cast of ‘Les Miserables School Edition’ joined Dan Mitchell for an interview talking about the plot of the show, describing their characters, and even giving an exclusive vocal preview singing a small selection of music!
