MoCo Arts Middle School Musical Theatre invites the public to Disney’s Descendants Sunday, Dec. 12

MoCo Arts Middle School Musical Theatre invites the public to experience Disney’s Descendants, Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at MoCo Arts’ Black Box, The Founders Theatre OR streamed live from the comfort of your own home! Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical comedy featuring the beloved characters and hit songs from the films! It is present-day, and in the kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos – the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar – are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. Now entering a completely foreign world and way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

A note from Director Kristen Leach:

“Thank you for supporting these wonderful children as they work to grow their artistic talents, build confidence, and raise each other up!

Disney’s Descendants has led to some important conversations in class about social justice concerns. We have spoken about not judging a person based on an address or considering someone’s guilt over the crimes of their parents. We’ve talked about what happens when we label people, in the case of this story, the “evils”. We’ve talked about how the Aurodonians assumed they were “better” than the Evils and that the Evils were subject to terrible living conditions and poor education. The message in this story is simple; treat people with kindness, do not assume anything about a person and work to truly understand each other, offer compassion. The cast members have not only poured this message into their character portrayals but have also shown a great deal of kindness and support to each other throughout the production process. It has been an honor to work with this group of fiercely talented young people.
We hope you will enjoy the show!”
