A Light in the Darkness

It’s been nearly seven weeks since COVID-19 forced us to close our doors. Seven weeks since we first had to think radically outside the box to find a solution that would allow us to continue to further our mission of transforming lives… even while we are unable to gather at the studio. So much has happened since then. You can read all about our COVID-19 response and how we’ve been operating over the past several weeks here.

As we near the end of week seven, we’re taking a moment to reflect on all that’s happened. Over the last seven weeks, our teachers and staff have heeded the call and stepped up in a big way to develop an effective distance learning program that has brought joy and light to our students during a time when many of them feel isolated and disconnected from the things they love.

Many of you have shared your stories with us, and it’s been truly uplifting to hear how much it’s meant to our families that they are able to maintain this small part of their pre-COVID routine. We’d like to share some of the thoughtful messages we’ve received since we began this journey, in hopes that they’ll brighten your day too. 🙂

“I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the video and streaming options for dance classes! Nathaniel misses his contact with MoCo staff and friends, and these have provided a much-needed outlet. I know it’s not the same as an in-person class, but I appreciate the effort that went into these.”

–Heather B.

“I was thrilled to read about how the staff are working to keep the kids engaged with the arts during this disruptive time.  MoCo is so important to so many children that maintaining a relationship through video lessons will be a real gift.  Thanks for all that you and the staff are doing.”

–Rudy F.

“Thank you!!! You are all wonderful for making the videos and everything else you’re doing in these strange times!  ❤ We’re also very happy to have the live-streamed classes while the studios are closed!”

–Marni W.

“It is so great that you are sending out these videos.  They are such spirit lifters in these worrisome times, and certainly should inspire everybody (including an “‘older kid” like me) to stay in shape. I know we all miss class, I certainly do, and these videos somehow make it seem more of a temporary hiatus – and that getting back to what we all love to do will happen.”

–Virginia C.

“These have been AMAZING. Truly the ray of sunshine that quarantine life needed. It’s giving Bella back normalcy. Her first class was with Tracy and when she greeted the kids, I just saw Bella bloom right back into her joyous old self- it was incredible to witness. I can’t say enough about the impact it has had this week. We are so grateful for Moco.”

–Evelyn E.

“It’s been such a gift for Molly to have this one piece of her life remain (sort of) intact. Now that her summer intensive in Kansas City has been canceled, this has been the thing she’s been focusing her attention on and it’s keeping her sane.”

–Laura T.

“Thank you, Reagan for all that you (and all the staff) have done to keep the arts education going. I’ve said it before (many times) and I’ll keep saying it-We are so fortunate to have MoCo in our community.”

–Stacy K.

“During this uncertain time having virtual dance for my five-year-old has created a sense of calm, love and light. Being so young this is all very big and confusing for her.  Virtual dance with MoCo gives her a small sense of “normal” right now. This means the world to her and to my family. MoCo! Dance Happy! Thank you!”

–Katie C.

“Dance classes are always a bright spot in Rachel’s week, but now more than ever.  I hear bits of the classes as I work in the other room and smile as I hear Cassie’s energy, Tasha’s laugh, and Reagan’s encouragement.”

–Lisa L.

“I am loving how MoCo is staying active in my family’s life throughout this unusual time. The live classes give us a sense of normalcy on Saturday mornings and something to look forward to throughout the week. Phoebe loves being able to talk to Miss Danielle and see all of her friends. We are so grateful!”

–Katie L.
